Situated in the middle of Mabley Green stands an art installation by John Franklin in the form of a climbable boulder.

During the lockdowns of 2021, the boulder was brought back to life as a community formed and grew around it, driven by the closure of climbing gyms and restrictions placed on travel.

I spent the November lockdown at the boulder, photographing the community and trying to capture what it meant for them. And exploring what it meant for me.

The last frame of the project was shot on the 30th of November 2021, and I begun the long journey of crafting it into a photo book. The images I had captured, enabled me to tell the story of the people and the boulder, but I had so many emotions and thoughts tied to my time spent there that I felt it really needed something more.

I decided to tell my story along side it, venturing into the domain of ‘writer’, and after more edits and versions than I care to remember, the book is now complete.
